The Geographic Information System (GIS) is a system of hardware and software used for storage, retrieval, mapping, and analysis of geographic data.  GIS is a computer technology that bring together all types information based on geographic location for the purpose of query, analysis and generation of maps and reports.

The Planning Technician for Loyalist Township maintains geographic layers and their associated databases including streets, parcel fabric, infrastructure, natural features, and local heritage and cultural activities.

The GIS benefits the Township by providing staff a means to share data and a method of visualizing geographic related issues and their solutions. Better information leads to better decisions, and subsequently, better customer service.
